Virtology isn't therapy and it isn't coaching. It's the work that finally reaches the layer beneath both — where character is actually built, one virtue at a time.
Prof. Eduardo Casarotto · 5,000 religions studied · 33 Virtues mapped
The problem
Years of therapy. Thousands spent on coaching. Books, retreats, breathwork, emotional intelligence training, holistic healing. You got insight. You got language for your pain. You got temporary relief. And still — the patterns stayed.
That's not your fault. It's a structural problem with every one of those approaches. They all work on the surface — thoughts, feelings, behaviour — and leave the structure generating them untouched.
Cognitive Therapy
Rewires thought patterns. Leaves the underlying armor intact.
Coaching
Trains behavior and habits. Ignores the psychic architecture generating them.
Holistic Healing
Soothes the nervous system. Does not reach the root cause of why it was dysregulated.
The root cause
In Virtology, Pride isn't arrogance or vanity. It's the primitive need to feel important and to belong — wired into the brainstem before we had language, before we had choice.
It runs beneath every defense you've ever built. It decides, in milliseconds, which parts of you get to show and which must be hidden. It's what builds the armor.
This is the causal chain Prof. Casarotto uncovered. Trauma is not the root. Pride is.
Trauma is what triggers Pride into action — but Pride is already there from birth, deciding which responses will shape your character. Every psychological difficulty you carry — anxiety, chronic control, perfectionism, the inability to rest, dependency, avoidance, rage — is Pride's response to pain that was never processed.
That's why conventional approaches don't move the needle. They work with the armor. Virtology works with what built it.
Evidence in the world
This isn't a new method looking for validation. It's already in use — in governments, in prisons, in public schools, at the UN.
Nationwide program
FUNAP adopted O Novo Eu — The Eight Fundamental Virtues across the Brazilian prison system. Inmates earn sentence reduction for reading and writing about the virtues. Senators Paulo Paim and Stefhany are sponsoring national implementation.
Presented at the UN
Virtology and Humanization presented at the United Nations in New York and Geneva as a framework for human development at civilizational scale.
Public education
Approved by Brazil's FNDE for school adoption. The city of São João del-Rei implemented Virtology across all its public schools. A Senate bill against school violence is now based on the Virtology framework.
Also in progress
Ministry of Health — national humanization seal for hospitals and clinics · Senate Federal Library — Casarotto's work incorporated as reference for future legislation · World Academy of Letters — immortal chair and Honoris Causa granted for Virtology.
The difference
Each of these approaches does something real. Coaching changes behaviour. Psychoanalysis reveals root causes. Behaviourism conditions responses. None of them was designed to work at the layer where character is actually built — the neural-structural layer. Virtology operates there.

The core definition
Before I get to what a virtue is in Virtology, it helps to clear out what it isn't. The word carries baggage in English that it doesn't carry in Portuguese — moral, religious, Victorian, at times politically loaded. None of that applies here.
What a virtue is not
What it is: a specific psychological competency your brain can build, the same way it builds memory, coordination, or language. A trainable capacity with a measurable shape. You develop it through three things working together.
Conhecimento · Knowledge
Understanding the virtue at its mechanism level — what it is, how it works, what it looks like when absent.
Habilidade · Skill
Daily practice that encodes the virtue into the nervous system — turning understanding into neural pathway.
Atitude · Attitude
The internal disposition that makes the virtue automatic — the moment the armor stops running the show.
The map
Prof. Casarotto identified these 33 virtues through comparative study of more than 5,000 religious, philosophical, and wisdom traditions. Every tradition, across every culture, across every era, points to the same competencies — under different names, with different metaphors, but with remarkable structural agreement.
Virtology extracts the neuroscience beneath the metaphors. Each virtue below is a specific, buildable neural capacity.
The vision
A virtuous society isn't a utopia and it isn't wishful thinking. It is what happens when enough individuals rebuild their own psychic architecture — the effect scales. From the single person, to the family, to the institution, to the culture.
And it isn't theoretical. Virtology is already in places most people would assume it couldn't reach.
Family
When parents stop parenting from their own unresolved pride and begin training specific virtues — both their own and their children's — the family stops passing down the same armor it was built from. Children raised this way don't spend their adult lives undoing what was done to them.
School
The city of São João del-Rei, in Brazil, adopted Virtology across all of its public schools. Not as an extra subject. As the framework teachers actually work inside. Discipline, bullying, and mental-health indicators moved. Children who learn this at seven don't have to unlearn anything at thirty-seven.
Workplace
A workplace built on primitive pride — status, competition, people as resources — produces the exhaustion and burnout now showing up in workplace mental-health legislation around the world. The real alternative isn't meditation apps. It's a workplace designed around what humans actually need to function. Virtology maps that.
Prisons
The Brazilian prison system adopted a book called The New Me — The Eight Fundamental Virtues for a Path of Freedom. Inmates read it and write about what they understood. Some earn sentence reduction. The line almost all of them say when they finish is the same: "If I had learned this earlier, I wouldn't be here."
This is what Prof. Casarotto means by applied neuroplasticity at civilizational scale. Not a society kept in line by punishment. A society that evolves because its individuals do.
The source
Brazilian psychoanalyst, researcher, and founder of Virtology. Three decades of comparative study — across religions, philosophies, and the neuroscience of character — produced the mapping of the 33 Virtues as specific, trainable psychological competencies.
His work has been presented at the United Nations, entered into the Brazilian Senate Federal Library as a reference for future legislation, and honoured with an immortal chair at the World Academy of Letters and a Doctor Honoris Causa.
His complete body of research — books, lectures, certified training, and ongoing publications — lives at his official site.
About
I came to Virtology by two routes. As a professional translator — my work has always been about the place where language meets the way people actually change. And as someone who had tried, like most of you reading this, nearly everything else first.
What I found in Prof. Eduardo Casarotto's work was something I hadn't met anywhere else. A framework precise enough to name — in neurological terms — exactly what every other approach had been circling without ever touching.
I trained as a Certified Virtologist. And because Prof. Casarotto's work still lives entirely in Portuguese, I ended up in a strange position: one of the only Certified Virtologists who also works professionally as a translator between the two languages. This site exists to change that. To bring Virtology to the English-speaking world with the doctrinal precision it deserves — not a watered-down summary of it.
I'm also the founder of PRM — Personality Reconstruction Matrix. PRM takes Virtology as its foundation and integrates it with neuroscience and neuroplasticity, psychic alchemy, quantum physics and epigenetics, the heart as a portal, music and breath, and the philosophy of human development. It's what makes this work clinical, personal, and actually usable — for the people ready to do it.
The channel
Long-form episodes on Virtology in English. Not a substitute for working with a Virtologist — but the most thorough free introduction available to the framework, the 33 Virtues, and the clinical thinking beneath them.
For everyone who's spent years — and money, and hope — on conventional approaches and is still carrying the same patterns. There's a reason nothing worked. This episode is why.
